Bowland House
Bowland House is a prominent 14-storey residential tower located in Blackburn, Lancashire, originally constructed in 1963. As one of the first high-rise buildings in the area, it has long been a significant feature of the local skyline. In 2021, the building underwent a comprehensive £3.9 million refurbishment to modernize its facilities and enhance safety standards.
The Development
The £3.4million refurbishment of Bowland House was an 18-month long collaboration between Great Places Housing Group, Blackburn with Darwen Council, Casey’s, Wetherby Building Systems and Hamilton (Building Contractors) Ltd. Whilst the building was undoubtedly an iconic structure on the local skyline, the 60 year old building was looking weary and outdated.
The Result
External Wall Insulation (EWI): The building’s exterior was upgraded with 70mm and 80mm thicknesses of A1-rated stone wool insulation, finished with a two-tone grey silicone render on the main elevations and WBS Cannon Blue 9mm brick slips at the ground floor level.
